TRUTH
When we speak of truth from God, it is that understanding which gives meaning and purpose to life. To have meaning and purpose, is to know how to be who we were created to be.
Truth testifies to the meaning and purpose of life.
Ephesians 4:14-16
14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Nothing which man does in the Flesh (our fallen nature) gives meaning and purpose to life, ultimately all is vanity. Man in the Flesh is spiritually dead. Many people are searching for meaning and purpose in life, but they are searching in terms of the desires and expectations of their flesh and the standards of the World.
An unanswerable truth, for natural man, is “how are we here” and “why are we here”? These are spiritual questions which reveal the difference between spirit and soul (man and animal). Answers can only be discerned by understanding the difference between the physical, psychical and spiritual.
The Bible testifies as to God, God’s creation and God’s dealings with his creation.
Without the Spirit of God to guide us, we are at the mercy of our fallen nature which controls and frustrates us in many ways. The soul of every person is restless and searching for meaning, that is “truth”
This restlessness is a deep spiritual desire to be reconciled to God.
The Bible explains the fallen nature of man and testifies to the grace of God through the life of Christ.
The Holy Spirit testifies to man’s spirit about Christ. John 16:7-14
Christ testifies to truth and to God the Father. Truth as to who we are, how we got here, and why we are here. This truth gives meaning and purpose to life.John 14:9-11
A meaningful life is a life based on our relationship with God. Meaning and purpose to life is to fulfill the purpose of our creation.
Ephesians 1:17-18 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Trusting God for meaning and purpose has to do with where you look for answers, true answers concerning life’s problems and needs. We either trust in God for truth and life, or we trust in the World’s solutions which are vain and unreliable.Only God and God alone can reconcile Man unto himself, fulfill our spiritual longing to rest in His love and grace, and give us His LIFE.
That is why Christ said He is the way, the truth and the life.
John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
Our hope is in Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:27
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
SO WHAT IS SPIRITUAL TRUTH?
- Truth to us, is what God reveals which sets us free from:
– Our fears (Emotions) Romans 8:16
– Our old nature (Pride) John 8:31-32
– And religious bondage.
- Truth is revealed to us, Spirit to spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13
- To receive spiritual truth, we must be born-again, we must have a teachable spirit. 1 John 2:20;27
- To have a teachable spirit, we must be abiding in Christ and not in the Flesh. Ephesians 4:17-24

Our “Flesh” and Satan will try to deceive us into thinking that our conscience is the Spirit of God in us. We listen to ourselves instead of being quiet long enough to understand our spiritual nature and our relationship with God.
Many poeple are not open to being taught anything from God because, they think they already know it or that once they have it figured out then why do they need a closer walk with God? Mark Twain had something to say about this?
Truth IS ….
In the Bible Jesus said to a man named Nicodemus “you must be born again … born from above.”When we’re born again we are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, our spirit is regenerated. We are not, however, filled to the point of being totally controlled by the Holy Spirit. Having our minds renewed takes time because we are still full of ourselves and the world. When we’re born again, we have all of the Holy Spirit that we’re going to get.
WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO GET MORE OF IS TRUTH. 2 Peter 1:3-12 1 John 4:5-6 2 Peter 3:18 2 Corinthians 9:8 John 17:17-19
When we are “born again”, regeneration has re-established Spirit to spirit communications with God. We have been indwelled by the Holy Spirit and that is all we need. 2 Peter 1:3 , says “we have been given everything we need for life and godliness, in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Romans 8:16 1 John 2:20;27
This knowledge is in the form of spiritual truths taught by the Holy Spirit.
The life of Jesus Christ is Grace and Truth.
John 1:1
1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:4 This is a link to the Gateway Bible.
SO WHAT CAN WE CONCLUDE FROM ALL OF THIS?
- Learning truth from God is what gives meaning and purpose to life, because that is the relationship for which we were created.
- The solution to the fallen nature of man is the risen life of Christ. The life which we receive when we are born again. The life we don’t understand until we understand the difference between the spirit and the flesh. Romans 5:8-10 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Romans 8:1-5
- When we experience freedom in the life of Christ, fruit becomes the outward expression of an inward nature, Christ living His life through us. Philippians 1:9-11 4:4-9 1 Peter 5:5-6 1 John 3:23
- Only as we abide in the Vine, in the life of Christ, can we continue to have joy and contentment.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Ephesians 1:18

We do not exhibit “abiding in Christ” by trying to be “like” Christ, by trying to be good like Christ or by trying to do the things He did. We abide in Christ by having the attitude which He had, which was, in humility, depending on the Father.
Jesus said there would be many false prophets, religionists who are deceiving others for their own gain and recognition.(This is the topic of another study.)
We receive knowledge from many sources, but truth is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit, not to our conscience, but to our spirit.
God doesn’t just dump truth into us. We confuse knowlege with truth. Knowledge is easy to obtain – to receive truth, we have to think about it in relationship to our life as it is or was, and our life as God intended it to be. And allow the Holy Spirit to renew our mind’s with spiritual truth.
Galatians 5:5
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. The WORD is truth. What we hear as truth by the testimony of others, cannot be contrary to holy scripture.1 John 2:20
20. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1 John 2:27
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Now, just how does God place things into our heart and mind?Spirit to spirit, right?
But, we have to think about IT.
We have to think about IT in terms of Christ living his life through us. Life in the Spirit.
Truth is not obtained by just sitting around and reading scripture everyday and reasoning out or speculating on what that means. That is religion.
1 Corinthians 8:1-3
1. Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
Truth is what God puts into our hearts which makes a difference in our understanding of our relationship with Christ, which will make a difference in what we do. This is Christ living his life through us. Spiritual truths should make a difference, not only in our relationship to God, But in our relatioship to ourselves and to others.
Philippians 4:4-9
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: [and] again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
When we admit to ourselves, how meaningless and hopeless life is in the “Flesh”, then we will understand that we not only need to depend on God for our salvation, but we also need to depend on him for every aspect of our life. It happens a little at a time, as the Holy Spirit works HIS conviction in our hearts.Reading scripture is just putting into our mind. “Truth” comes by experiencing God’s way in our heart. Heart felt spiritual victories will change our beliefs into convictions.
WE ACT ON WHAT GOD PLACES IN OUR HEART, NOT WHAT SOMEONE ELSE PUTS INTO OUR MIND. Eph 3:16-20
